Guide to Creating a new folder in Freenas
Navigate to the "storage" tab along the top:
You should see a list of all the volumes. Be careful here! S1 is the volume for all data stored on storage1 and if you delete anything here, you could at worse delete all data from storage1.
It has a hierarchy to the volume layout. So S1 is the vol at the top highlighted.
The next S1 down is the root data set of everything on storage1. All files and folders sit within this folder. You will notice the next level down from S1 include "iso" and "software". These folders have no more data sets nested within them. Thing to note here is, the data you populate any dataset/share with will not show in this hierarchy. So for example the iso dataset does not show all the ISO`s that are currently within the "iso" dataset.
For this guide i will create a dataset within "S1". to do this click on the second S1 and below the box listing all the volumes/datasets. You should see new options appear. I have highlighted options in various colours. Green: Change permissions Black: Add Dataset and red: Edit options of dataset currently selected.
Hit the button outlined in black "Add Dataset"
