vCenter 6.7 Appliance Deployment

  1. Download the vCenter 6.7 appliance installation iso
    \\10.0.0.222\software\VM WareVMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-15132721.iso
  2. Open the ISO on your Windows laptop and run the GUI installer:
    D:\vcsa-ui-installer\win32\isntaller.exe
  3. Click 'Install'
  4. 'Select deployment type' section, select 'Embedded Platform Services Controller'
  5. 'Appliance deployment target' section, specify ESXi host details
  6. 'Set up appliance VM' section, ensure VM name is unique on the ESXi host and specify root password
  7. 'Select deployment size' section, leave as 'Tiny' and 'Default' storage
  8. 'Select datastore' section, select appropriate datastore and tick 'Enable Thin Disk Mode'
  9. 'Configure network settings' section. If this is incorrectly set you will not be able to access the vCenter Servers web interface to correct the error. Specify the following:
    IP address
    Subnet mask
    Default gateway
    Internal DNS server
  10. Click 'next' and 'finish' to deploy the vCenter 6.7 appliance to the ESXi host

vCenter 6.7 Server Configuration

  1. Once the appliance has finished deploying log into it's web interface using it's IP 'https://vcenter_ip' to begin configuration
Example settings below, the most important of these are the 'SSO Details', if these are incorrect the 'vCenter Server' will fail deployment in an unrecoverable way:

Create a new SSO domain as 'vsphere.local'

Login to vCenter Server Web Interface

  1. Navigate to the vCenter Server Web Interface e.g. https://vcenter_server_ip/ui
  2. Login as 'administrator@vsphere.local'

Common Errors

  1. The below error will occur if the SSO details are incorrectly set. This error is unrecoverable and we require the deployment of a new vCenter 6.7 appliance:
