The shell is the command line interpreter.  Using the right commands, permissions and tools allows the user to administer the system, even when the user isn&amp;#039;t there!&lt;br /&gt;

Redhats default shell is bash the bourne again shell. &lt;br /&gt;

To change the default shell for a user edit /etc/passwd.  The last column of each user defines which shell starts when a user logs in to the system.&lt;br /&gt;
