Mail Servers

There are four main parts to a mail server, the MTA, the MUA, the MDA and the MSA.

MTA Mail Transfer Agent Postfix, sendmail, dovecot
MUA Mail User Agent mutt, Evolution, thunderbird
MDA Mail Delivery Agent procmail
MSA Mail Submission Agent Postfix, sendmail

Protocols

There are three main protocols used for Email Servers: SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4.
