Samba Name Resolution

wins support = yes
; wins server = w.x.y.z
wins proxy = yes
dns proxy = yes
  • wins support - activates a WINS server on the local system - cannot be used with 'wins server'
  • wins server - points to remote WINS server - cannot be used with 'wins support'
  • wins proxy - allow access to the Samba server from clients
  • dns proxy - if WINS name resolution fails, forward to DNS server
