SMM: Supermicro Server Management
NOTE: This is only a brief summary of what SMM can do. I will keep adding to this page in future but the best thing would be to use SMM to understand everything it can do.
Installation
Opening SMM
SMM is run through a web browser on the master system. Point the browser towards the localhost and the port set up for the web interface during installation.
http://ssm:8080/You will find a login screen for SSM, the default login is admin, admin.
Adding nodes
Click on Administration in the bottom left corner, the click on Host Discovery Wizard. This will guide you through adding a node to SMM.
There are three types of node that can be added:
- Agent managed - must have the SMM agent installed on the node. This type of node had the most functionality. It will combine the information from the agent with the IPMI if it's available.
- Agentless - For those systems without the Agent installed
- IPMI - Only controls what can already be done through IMPI.
Adding Node Groups
Monitoring of systems
SMM allows monitoring across all nodes, a node group or an individual node.
Controlling a node
Each node has various commands that can be run - they will be shown down the right hand side in several sections, when a node is selected. The sections shown will depend on what type of node it is. eg an IPMI node will not show the Agent Managed section.
- IPMI - Power controls, Reset the BMC, flash the UID LED, etc
- Agent Managed - Graceful Power controls
- System Information
- Remote Control - IPMI Web interface, VNC viewer, The Agent Web
- Host Admin - Host properties, delete a host
- Reports
The Agent Web
Opens a new page.
The Page shows all the information that can be gathered in one place.
- If the IPMI has been found a full range of sensor readings will be shown in a graphical form.
- The system information can be found in full
- The reports on the system
- The system Configuration
